Hi New here!

I found a violin in a wooden case at the local refuse tip. It is a bit battered and two of the tuning pegs are twigs.

I want to replace them and see if `i can get it going. The body work is worn but fine.
Can I do the pegs by filing and sanding them down ?any tips to do this.
Or should I take it back to the tip?
It has steiner stamped on the body and look s about over 50 years old.

I could put a picture on here
Thank you
Bob

You really need a peg reamer and shaper to properly fit pegs. Take it to a luthier to have it looked at. There might be other significant things wrong with it that you're not aware of.

No need to toss it. Sounds like a nice find.
