I was at a french polishing course and was exposed to the "fanned fret" concept for guitars.....

Has anyone attempted to apply the concept to violins? It seems playability might be easier???

Jack... I was not thinking of the frets but the fanning...the nut culd be turned on an angle and the bridge, well... maybe angled the same as the nut. I heard that the angle at the nut makes playability easier.

So did anyone try it? It would be do-able,even if the idea did come from an electric Geetaar.Your fingers and ears will be the judge of that.Parrallel would be the important thing.Nut and bridge.

I think most players would tell you that it's hard enough to hit the right place on one string, but it would be worse if the "right place" was in a different spot on every string. Guitar frets negate the necessity to do more than come close, within a half inch or so.

I'll bet a skilled player would adjust to the new positions quickly. Switching back and forth might be tough.

Would the longer strings noticeably improve the tone? That's a good question. I doubt it, but who knows?
