Some years ago a Swiss Institute made a pigs-ear of an 'old versus new' comparison.

So it makes me ask what were the credentials of the evaluators of the magic-mushroom violin.

Others are using mushrooms also.

excellent.
I have been looking for this for a long time!
I can now fire the elves that come in at night and do all the work of re graduating, I can now just pick mushrooms and have them do the gentle work of nibbling slightly on the wood, thereby reducing the density and improving the sound. No more sharpening my finger planes!!!!

for mushroom to grow,
1) the wood needs to be wet
2) how long should we allow mushroom to grow on tone wood?
3) after "mushroom action" completed, how long to take to get wood dry enough again?
