I came across the site of violin makers in the USA:

http://www.vmaai.com

Their annual meeting/convention is October 14 – 17 in Tucson, Arizona.

Is there a Canadian equivalent? I'd like to attend a similar event, but closer to home.

I would be very interested in this too. Have nosed around on the net for a while and I can't find any formal group close by. I'm just east of Toronto.

I'd be interested in meeting with other makers and attending Trade Show. I heard that London had a Michigan Violin Makers chapter. I plan on at least checking it out to see if it is still active

There is a group in BC called The Violin Maker's Association of BC that has meetings every third Friday of the month, except in December and July & August. They meet at the East Hastings Community Center at 7:30PM.

Contacts:

President: Ken 604-433-4645
Secretarty: Aime 604-988-2370
Treasurer: Frank 604-922-6902

The group is only about 20 memeber strong. I met them at an annual woodworking show. I was honestly underwhelmed by their display. Their sign was scribbled on cardboard, and they had what looked like chinese whites setup on the table. There were a couple pieces the guy had made with his homemade duplicarver on display, which was neat, and some templates out. I may go to one of their meetings, but I'm not sure. It's only $20.00 a year to join though.

Wow, interesting to see a couple of names from online on that page. Sure would be nice if they were categorized geographically (in a smaller unit than Country). It'd be good, for example, to have a list of all makers in the GTA - that would help those interested in getting together...
