Anybody else?

No, they seem to have been offline for a couple of days now.

Its happened before, then they come right back. On the other hand, I have never understood what keeps them in business in the first place. Do people subscribe? Do the ads bring in enough business to pay the bills? When I find something really useful I copy it immediately in case they go away for ever some day!

I hope all the content is not permanently lost. That would be too bad.

I emailed Jeffrey Holmes. If I hear from him, I will post here.

For a day or two I thought it was my computer, since it's been giving me lots of trouble lately, but I guess not.

If they don't come back, it will be sort of like I have lost a friend. One that I have had some problems with in the past, that's for sure, but one that I'm used to talking with and listening to every day... Weird huh?

Yes there's lots of information there that's for sure, and there was a time in the past (the recent past) when I would have considered the information a sort of "treasure" of violin making information, and a great loss to violin makers, if it was not available - but lately - I've been thinking that, if anything, the computer generally, takes people away from DOING things sometimes, and instead, makes them comfortable with TALKING about doing things, or about what they've done, rather than put that energy into the continual activity necessary to become accomplished with the necessary amount of making to get over "the learning stage".
The "learning stage" with regard to violins, (again, in my opinion only), is long and drawn out, and will be either accomplished by going to a violin making school - or talking with accomplished makers and just going ahead and making and more making, training or no training.

I guess that the real point I'm making, is that it can be done mainly by building and not really by mainly talking on line.
And many people (I believe) get trapped into TALKING about making, and leave the continual doing behind, a far second place...

So, in the long run, it would be nice to continue talking there (Maestronet, that is.), but if not, oh well. On we go. If all that was there is gone, there'd still be reality here, just as always, right?
OK my jib is done flapping, for at least a while now.

well I hope it comes back up because there's a lot of good information there. I even find interesting things in old old threads sometimes when browsing, plus I owe a guy a walking stick and don't have contact information :O well anyway... surely they have backups yeah ? As a computer geek I know you always make backups !
