I have made some varnish, that astonished my actually working as it should. The ingredients are venetian turpentine, raw linseed oil and seedlac.

I would like to know what is best for thinning the varnish?

I like Kerosene, but artist's white spirits (Winsor and Newton, for instance) will work also.

I was used 50/50 white spirits and turpentine. It give a good brushing quality and oily feel . Now I'm using Kerosene too , its even better ! Remember , for Kerosene , a little goes a loooong way !

Thank you folks. I have a gallon of kerosene that I use with pummis when I'm smoothing a finish, so I will use that.

Day 2 and I have tried the kerosene. It's does a great job and the varnish seems to dry faster.
