I may have access to a gigantic, straight and tall, black willow that has been blown over recently. I have always used black willow for my blocks and linings on violins and cello. I have heard of using willow for the back and sides of cello. Will it work for a Double bass? This tree is at least 30 inches in diameter for several feet. I should be able to get a split, 4 piece back from it. I would like to make a bass with all local woods, except for the top. (Southern Illinois) I have red maple for the neck, and persimmon for the fingerboard and fittings. Worth the trouble? |
