Hello, a friend of mine is starting on a cello he purchased online, and needs help with some cracks on the top. He needs to glue them back together, and I recommended Titebond III, and told him I would ask everyone on here. So please let me know what glue he should choose, I know most will say Hide Glue but he is not set up for that. Thanks!

I can see Jack gritting his teeth writing that. Titebond is for matchstick sculpture, not violins. He's just momentarily forgotten the Hide Glue Alternative: Knox unflavored gelatin, mixed strong, just enough water to cover the glue, in a jam jar heated in a pot of hot water. Just the same as hide glue, but much more expensive. :-)
Glue isn't really going to be the problem here: someone who can't get it together to heat up a pot of jello certainly will not have the necessary clamps to get those cracks closed well enough for the glue to stick them shut. |

| I'd have to agree, if one cannot be bothered with the use of hide glue, best not have a go at the cracks! |
