Hello, a friend of mine is starting on a cello he purchased online, and needs help with some cracks on the top. He needs to glue them back together, and I recommended Titebond III, and told him I would ask everyone on here. So please let me know what glue he should choose, I know most will say Hide Glue but he is not set up for that. Thanks!

I can see Jack gritting his teeth writing that. Titebond is for matchstick sculpture, not violins. He's just momentarily forgotten the Hide Glue Alternative: Knox unflavored gelatin, mixed strong, just enough water to cover the glue, in a jam jar heated in a pot of hot water. Just the same as hide glue, but much more expensive. :-)

Glue isn't really going to be the problem here: someone who can't get it together to heat up a pot of jello certainly will not have the necessary clamps to get those cracks closed well enough for the glue to stick them shut.

I'd have to agree, if one cannot be bothered with the use of hide glue, best not have a go at the cracks!

Is it my imagination or is that saddle way over to the left?
