Hi folks I found two old violins at am antique shop this week
One has no ID Lable
This is the info on the lable of one
Antonius & Heronymus Fr Amati Cremonen Andreae Fil F.16 65
The 16 is like the lettering 65 is penciled in Two Peice back top looks like one peice I cant see a seam

You discovered a real brothers Amati in an antique shop.

Janito Thank you for the reply I hope you are right about the violins

The violins are not in the antique shop now I have them home I am going to string them up soon One still has the gut string`s I will try to get a picture of them on the site The top on the Cremone one is a bit rough where the bridge has wore the varnish by draging it with pressure on the strings They are not beat up Ken

Also Had my hands on a strad at another place it did not say copy the neck was broken inch or so from the button Date in it think was
1737 i think cant remember rib was cracked & patched top has been reglued
back was re glued dont know with what kind of glue I left it there Ken

Chances are about 99.999% that they are copies, with fake labels, that were made in Germany about 1900. Hope I'm wrong, but not likely.

You are likely right If I can get them set up so they will play sound & look ok i will be happy that i rescued them I hate to see oldi instrument`s go to waste Ken

Ken,
I'm the same way. Love to bring the old instruments back into playing condition. Sometime you find a real gem. I restored an old German factory instrument that turned out to be one of the sweetest players that I have run across.

Hi Ken... Nice find ... especially #1! # 2 I think is a run of the mill factory version that sold at the turn of the century for $2. #1 is another story, but I am not qualified to offer a knowledeable opinion on it!
