The French Horn was chosen as a musical match for violinists in many prominent concerti . But...unfortunately ...now my hearing has been restored with a Cochlear implant I find the French Horn swamps the sound and almost obliterates what I used to hear from the violin virtuosi. I should not complain but it`s just true . When the implant was fitted I could not play a note on a violin . There was always an instant cutoff of sound for ten seconds .It took over 18 months for this to resolve itself . My brain resisted the bow on a string whereas I could hear a classical guitar and a live piano straight away .
Intresting facts that baffled the audiologists . But knowing this may help players suffering and worrying about their hearing . Take care of those tiny cochlear hairs and avoid breaking them in noisy traffic . Save them for the good stuff .
