Ok- I tried a solution of this casting material I got at hobby lobby.
It said on label that it is 5 times stronger than straight plaster.
i made a dilute solution and painted it on let it sit about 1 min- then wiped off the excess water with a wash cloth. Did this about 3 times. Also tried rubbing a slurry in with my fingers. Then wiped dry again. Let dry over night.
It definitely made a hard shell. So hard my scraper would not cut into it in places. so It took about 2 hours to get it scraped/sanded down. (didnt want to use any sandpaper- but---)
now in scraped down where the wood is showing again. What I cant tell is if there is now any product still left in the wood' surface. (????)
I guess the next move is i am going to either spray or wipe on a coat or two of yellow tinted shellack. Then maybe a coat of red or red-brown (dilute colored so as to not get too dark. )
Might be a plan of mice and men---- but it seems that way each time ! |
