Been a luthier most of my adult life, I'm 53, apprenticed 8 years part time in violin repair, have now had my own violin business for about 10 years, also spent almost 10 years building clavichords (baroque keyboard instruments). Years ago ran afoul of the censors at another violin forum, endeavouring to do a much better job of following forum rules and etiquette here. I work on student to intermediate level violins, almost exclusively antiques, and pass on any higher grade instruments I get to one of the top shops in Los Angeles that I have a close relationship with. I think its important to be aware of one's limitations, and working on $50,000 violins is not my forte, however on affordable instruments, the top shops aren't doing the work due to their high labour rates, and in that category, I do about as good a work as is available. Wish me luck. _________________ Honesty is the Best Policy
