Besides the random mess ups, what else is wrong? what can i do to make it better? I feel like there's not much emotion being expressed through the violin.

Thanks for posting and sharing your playing.
You're doing well for 2 years and 8 months. Don't be discouraged.
The main problem I see is in your bowing. Besides being too light, you are
also using the wrong part of the bow. For example, the first two notes
should be quite strong (as you are saying "Attention!!"). They should be
played near the frog, and not across the tip like you do. You are also playing
mostly the upper half of the bow. You can get stronger expression if you
play closer to the middle of the bow and towards the lower half of the bow, in
certain parts of the piece.
You also have some wrong notes. For example, the first C that you come to
should be played sharp (C#), but you play it at C. The same thing happens
when you come to the second C (should be played C#) which throws off your
D note.
I didn't check the rest. You may want to look at this video to see what I mean.

Keep it up...you doing ok. |

The video is unavailable but if you want a good example of the Andante look up Bronislav Huberman. It only has a photo but notice how the lower notes are played with emphasis (louder). Most modern players just blend it all into one and that destroys the point of the music . |

Look up the youtube series by Violin Jedi. He has some very good tips to break up the beginner stages of playing . Look at the video about Russian bow hold. I like his serious frown in these lessons. Serious stuff to learn properly .
Beginning a violin is a very tough thing to learn . He tells us all to persevere . |

To learn a complicated skill it can be useful to compare learning a violin with learning football skills. If you watch Brazilian Ronaldo in "20 Skills" and slow the video speed to 50% it suddenly shows how the movements have been planned and practised for hours to develop speed and accuracy . Jedi has one practice routine with a simple phrase and mixes up the speed of notes to find every combination .That breaks up the rigidity of uncertainty . It creates a relaxation and confidence . He uses Star Wars to keep some interest in very young players .It`s a good teaching strategy . He starts and stops for vital points like "Starting together". An important part of learning to play ( together ). Even something so basic has to be learned . He breaks up problems to understand them .
One unusual feature of Jedi Violin lessons is how good his violin sounds . It`s worth saying that , comparing many other video lessons where the violins sound terrible . A teacher`s violin should always sound good . And he does not hesitate in his lessons . He knows what he wants to say and gets on with it . |

In the Jedi violin lessons we see very young players , mixed in with good advice about a bow hold and then practice with a Bach Concerto. Does that seem a little odd ?
Innocent ,genuine questions about learning the violin seem to attract some fairly unfriendly flack here for no good reason .
Mike Shuman has to practice his spelling . Os instead of of . You missed the second letter by two whole keys . Just stand in the corner please . |

On top of practising music have a look at the original exercise lessons to turn your left hand into a super efficient fingering machine.
The Cowling Institute was the strange book title and it`s free online to work on at your leisure . You should not have any leisure .Time is running out already . So dig into those very effective finger muscle exercises that solve lots of problems before they arrive . If you are young it will be like money in the bank gaining interest while you sleep . |
