I thought I'd post this. It's the first violin I've made since the stroke - over a year ago. (I believe it's #48 - 49?)
It's back is slab (quilted?) Big leaf Maple, and the belly is Sitka Spruce, as you can observe the neck/scroll is a bit exaggerated (the first thing I finished) and the belly wood was a way thick piece of spruce that still needs mucho carving.
I thought ""this IS a violin making site, so I might as well post a violin being made.

Just giving it a try, Craig. The new Flickr format is less 'user-friendly'.
And the new fiddle looks great.
And just for those who may not know, we have a group of maker photos on Flickr as well

Thanks so much.
I'll catch on eventually - I swear it!
I'll post more photos here as I progress. (which is every day now) and I hope some other members will post what they're working on also.
Also - I'm going to find out about posting on flickr, right now I can't really even look at any of my own photos there - without going into edit mode?

Flickr was a straight-forward format for photos. So they changed it.
To post a photo, I go to the 'you' menu, choose photostream. Then click on the photo I want. Then I right-click on that photo and choose the size I want. Then I right click on that photo and select 'copy image address'. This is what I paste in between selecting the 'Img' button here on the forum.
It is very tough to know whether any of those sort of instructions will work for you or not. Various operating systems just confuse the heck out of me.
Craig, you can call me if you want to talk real-time about Flickr. I'm no expert, but I can do a few things. I'm still at the Weiser fiddle contest through this week, but next, say starting Tuesday or so, I'll be back in the shop getting into trouble. |

In order to just get moving and building again, it's made on an old (of mine) Henry Strobel plan Strad mold.
the platform is simply a step I routinely use, after I carve the main shape - where I put a flat (target/walmart) routing bit into the drill press, and then flatten the edge to a specific depth.
I'll post a photo as soon as I can get Flickr to work...
Now, Flickr will not show any of my photos at all, and windows stops responding as soon as I try to log on - etc.
Grrrrrrrrr...
Sorry - I'll find out the grit, clean it up, then post a photo -

Thanks for the info! I'm going to try this with one of my routing bits and see what happens. I was at the workshop this year, and Michael had a burr there, which was handy for making this part flat, but I can't find where to buy one. It seems a routing bit would work fine as long as one is very careful... |
