i am kicking the idea around, but it is after the future 5 string which is just getting started along with finishing two other vso's.
But I don't have any definite idea on pickups yet, have a few piezos from ebay and a bridge that were not that expensive .

And one of my classical violins came back wanting a fiddler style pick up on it so now it has one and a lower/flatter fiddling bridge.

Has anyone thought about making magnetic pole pickups for a violin?

like on an electric guitar ? - I'd love to put some (homemade - that is) on my solid body electric.

looks good ct the one you made.

the magnetic pickups , I did read about that on the fiddle forum, they put them in the finger board and of course you have to use metal strings. I am not sure if I followed the thread all the way through or if he gave up on that. I can;'t remember not surprising!

Hi, I didn't want to make a new topic because this one might be appropriate. I just wanted to show you my electric violin. It's made of spruce, except neck which is made of maple. It is not hollow, so it is a bit heavy, but I held some electric violins that are heavy pretty much the same. It has bridge pickup and preamp inside the body, It can be connected to the guitar amplifier or you can play it without it just with headphones, and it works ok. Specs: Function : 1V + 1T Active
Input Impedance : 10Mω
Frequency Response : 20Hz ~ 20KHz
