| Hi every one. I was just in an antique store and saw a.violin. it was made by john.g.Murdoch and co. " the maidstone". Everything seems in tact. The makers label doesn't have a year on it, but the owner seems to think its around the 1920s. Are these violins good quality? If so how much would they be worth? Any help ASAP would be much appreciated . Thanks! |

Other than the label, how does it sound and play? I thought I'd go to maestronet and check possible sales, but that site appears to be down.
I found this old posting in 8notes: "maidstones are a turn of the (19th-20th) century trade violin originating from germany. there are lots of them and by today`ds standards they`re not bad. Price for a fully restored one varies: we have never managed to get more than £200 on ebay and that took some doing and was for a bow and case as well. A specialist shop might get £300 or so for the violin. you won`t make any profit on it if you resell it, i`d suggest you just enjoy learning on it once it`s set up properly (expect to pay £100 or so)"
So forget the label, does it play for you?
