I'm getting ready to put base bars into 3 bellies (sitka, engleman, red spruce) soon. Is there a preference as to whether or not its preferable to use the same species for the bar in each top or can one species fits all? Also what wood characteristics should one select for?

Hello Mikes,

I mentioned to Leif Luscombe (Luthier) about your question. He says it is good practice to match the species of the bar with the top.

Also the density of the bass bar should be a little higher than the tops you are using.
