Hi
my 10 year old daughter is currently in Suzuki book 5 using a 1/4 Rudoulf Doetsch violin. She is ready for the 1/2 size and we are considering either the Wilhelm Klier or Hiroshi Kono. Just wondering what people prefer and why because we like both.

Given the relatively trivial difference between these instruments why not let her decide?
At book 5 level students are already pretty capable of discerning differences in tone... and if she chooses it she'll be more committed to it.
And she'll only play it for a year or so... |

Yup,
That's what we did - let her choose with her teacher's approval.
She likes the Klier because it has a brighter tone and the Kono has a darker tone. Her female teacher likes the klier but her male teacher likes the kono.
My daughter had a hard time choosing, but at the end she picked Klier - I hope it's a good choice.
Oh, she was on the 1/4 size for 2+ year so, maybe, she'll be on the 1/2 just as long too. |
