I just finished this Guarneri 1681, the only variation is the corners are a bit smaller and tighter than original.

Its one piece maple back, and one piece spruce front. The spruce I collected myself here in the mountains of NC -- a blown down tree that may have spent 3-4 years down before I cut it up in July 2009.

I'm naming it after my brother Carl who passed away 2 weeks ago from lung cancer at age 62 (just a year older than me).

Looks like a good start. Much further along than I am at this time.
Though I prefer more juvenile movie quotes like, "If I dressed like that I would have to kick my own !@#"

Hi Dave,

My condolence to you in regards to your brother Carl.

Your violin looks great. I don't see too many violins with one piece spruce top. Approximately how long did it take you to complete the violin?

I'm not understanding your question. Perhaps I missed the context somewhere??.

Dave, my thoughts are with you and your loss of Carl. I lost my first wife eight years ago from cancer and my little brother the following year from heart disease. I feel for you.

That is a fine instrument you have made. Any man would be honored to be remembered in such a way. I send my deepest sympathy, regards and best wishes.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Lemuel -- The comment earlier "Okey Dokey, just one question remains -- Bowels in or Bowels out" comes from the movie "Hannibal." You'd have to watch the movie to get the gist.

The violin, by the way, has a great voice!

Dave - a thing as beautifull as that is a better memorial than a truckload
of roses ! The violin is alive and will bring someone joy for many years to come !
I love your corners and edgework. I'm just getting to where I can
approach that problem properly.
Great figure on the back too !

Hi Dave,

Thanks for giving me the context of your quote. I'll have to go and search out the movie.

I wish I lived closer to you so that I could hear and play it.
