Michael... I read in your blog that you are testing various grounds as bridge treatments.
Have you considered hide glue or superglue? My guess is that that would give a more crystaline characteristic to the bridge and a clearer transfer of vibrations.... but that's just an intuitive guess.
Some time ago I had started a test such as yours with different superglues, and laid the bridges on a piece of paper with the notes, but three days later, my cat decided to evaluate the results and knocked the bridges off the paper... now I don't know what is what.... have not got back to the project.
Cheers!... and thanks for your blog... love it!!

I'm testing violin grounds. They're on bridges because I have a bunch that are made of the same wood.
I've tried superglue for sizing finished bridges, and have not been happy with the results, which weren't at all what I expected them to be. I'm not prepared to superglue a whole violin, though I know that guitar makers are doing that these days to fill rosewood (!!). I do know from other things I've done that superglues of the same speed and thickness vary a lot between brands. Some are as hard as glass, some very soft. I'm still sorting that out. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog

I have used superglue to seal cocobolo fingerboards and tailpieces.
The behaviour of superglue is very dependent on 'how fresh it is'. I bought a 12-pack last year and kept them unopened in a fridge. Now when I open one it will go solid in the tube within a few days. |

Cryogenic glues are activated with moisture. Perhaps the slight dampening of the target would get better performance from the glue. _________________ GeeMac |
