4 years ago we split a number of pieces of bradford pear for neck wood. I was looking at one of the blanks today, the grain , texture and hardness seem similiar to eastern maple , the colour is slightly different with pinkish hues and a tight very close grain. All the pieces are quatersawn, and end grain has been coated with wax. There is some slight checking, and the piece has distorted a bit due to drying in the basement. has anyone out there ever used this wood to make a violin neck ? thanks.
