Hi,

My 10 year old daughter has a 1/2 size violin and she seems to be bowing on the e-string side of the C-Bout periodically. I noticed that there are rosins on it and today there's a small chip.

Is that normal to bow on it? Is there a way to fix it before it gets worse.

She's in Suzuki book 5 and practices 3-4 hours a day.

My take is that there are at least two issues.

The first is that the player is over-extending her bowing. This should be addressed by her teacher.

The second and more likely reason is that the bridge is too low. Ask her teacher.

As for the chip, chalk that up to a typical issue with a new player. I assume that this is an inexpensive 1/2 size.

The violin is a "Wilhelm Klier" so it's not inexpensive. maybe I can put little wood putty on the chip.

Don't put wood putty on it, better to leave it be than do that.

Any idea where I can get a 1/2 size C-bout protector? Sharmusic.com has one but it's full size.

The C-Bout is not damaged to a point that needs repair by a luthier. I am still looking for this protector for a 1/2 size violin which I cannot find.

This seems like a great idea - not sure why none of the local violin shops and music store even heard of such of item. Anyone use it?
