My first two violins are finaly done, started both of them last year, both have been nearly done in the white for a while, it took me a while to get the purfling and varnish done.
The learning curve has been somewhat steep, but it has been very fun.
The one on the right is the first one, i tried to design my own ff for the second one, not sure if i am happy with them.
Nr.1
Nr.2
Nr.1 on the right, the wood for the second one is not as well figured as the one i used on the first one
Nr.1 the neck angle is to low on this one
Nr.2 neck angle is correct on this one i think
Comments and suggestions for improvements are welcomed.

| They look pretty nice. Hard to say a lot from photos. Good work! |

It is hard to tell from a photograph, but from here they look pretty good for first effort. I'm not big on high gloss, I like to tone it down with white pummice then bring some of the gloss back with rottenstone.
I've also taken to doing my edge work after assembling everything, then finally purfling. Then my final channel work and varnish. You must be very patient -- I had trouble holding back during the varnishing of my first couple violins, usually had them strung up within a few days of last coat of varnish.
The one with the ebony chinrest -- I like the scroll better, it looks a little more delicate than the other, the begbox a little more slender. Hard to tell from the photos.
Your first appears better than my first, so congratulations. Keep it up, make sure each one is an improvement on the previous. _________________ Dave in the Blue Ridge

Thank you Dave.
The first one is less glossy than the second one, it has been sanded very lightly with 1000grit sandpaper, in normal light it looks more like a satin finnish than a gloss. I am not shure if it shows well in the pictures, the gloss is exaggerated because of the flash.
The second one is not sanded/rubbed at all, but i may try to get some of the gloss down later.
I did do the purfling after they where assembled, took me some practice to get the hang of it, so there are a few rough spots in the purfling.
I think the purfling has gone much better on nr.3 that i am making atm.
The scrolls on these 2 are not my work, the materials was found in an attic, and 2 of the scrolls where factory carved i think, i will start the work on my first scroll next week |
