Hi,
I was thinking of purchasing an unvarnished Cello to save money and
varnish it myself etc... Does anyone know who sells these and what is
the cost for an instrument that sounds fairly good?

Hi, and welcome on the forum!
I suggested you fill out some info in your profile, like Localisation, for instance.
That may change the advices a lot!
Best regards,
François
P.S. The link is available at the top of the page. |

I'll check out strings4sale.com. I am an extremely rudimentary
violinist - just starting out, but really enjoying myself, which is what
this is all about!
I was able to play a friend's cello and it just bowled me over with
the bass vibrating your whole body. I am determined to scrounge up
the cash for a cello.
I updated my profile a little.
I live in D.C. area. |

In our area, I saw a used Eastman Cello for about $1500 on
Craigslist, a Strunal for about $1,000 and I played a $2500 European
Cello which was very nice. Equivalent violins are way less money, but
I guess you are paying for massive amounts of wood in a
cello, compared to an instrument as small as a violin.
Anyone ever play one of the "all solid wood" Strunals? Their classical
guitars are excellent, in my opinion.
Here is a REALLY cheap instrument:

I got to figure out what the shipping charges would be.
Hora (Romanian company) sells stringed instruments, guitars. |
