I produced a rough and read quirky instrument which I took to be played. However I was told that "all instruments should have cases". Not wishing to treble the price of the instrument by buying an ill-fitting case, I decided to make one ... equally quirky.
So I decided on Papier-mâché as I remembered the kids made masks with Papier-mâché in a few hours using cheap materials.
So I wrapped the instrument with padding and then put a fluffy towel as the box "liner". In retrospect I should have cut the liner carefully to fit the instrument, but I didn't want it to look too "polished" (having been forced to get a box!)
However I decided to use water proof wood glue (an inherited load that was going off) and instead of all drying in an hour or two, the glue seals the surface and it still isn't dry overnight. And water proof glue is soft, so I need a much greater thickness to get the stiffness I need. |

Could you possibly try harder to discover the least possible ways to make things? Why use old glue that you have not tested first? Just buy a used case or find some string to tie the bow and fiddle together .Just hope it`s not raining if you take it out .Playing or making a violin needs the best efforts to get it all right from start to finish .This is like the England football team getting all the excuses in early when they know it will fail . There is some psychology at work here.
By the way how did you find this forum? It has a very non obvious title and may explainn why it`s almost as dead as a doornail . |
