I'm a composer and I have a question about a passage that I can't figure out with respect to how it would be played.

In Stravinsky's The Firebird there is a figure on the D string in 32nd notes where the violinist has to play up and down arpeggios in natural harmonics, starting on the 2nd harmonic and going up to the 6th and back down again.

To play these in high positions you have to go way up on the fingerboard, or in low positions you just move near the nut.

So, which way is better or more preferred for most violinists?
