In the Bach suite no 6 for Cello Sergey Malov has the most unusual way to play a cello . It looks easier than a normal violin position.Has anyone tried to play like that with a violin ? All you need is a strap around the shoulders. It would save the bother of a chinrest and shoulder rest . Some players in India play with the violin in the lap ,more like a cello . The bowing would feel a little more awkward than Sergey`s technique .
After the initial surprise you get the feeling it has a deep history going back to medieval times. Enjoy the wonderful performance while you see this musician . |

The six musicians playing one piece each of the Bach cello suites all have very fine instruments but ,not wanting to brag .but my Octave Violin sounds ,tonally , much more convincing apart from the top string . That is opposite to what I expected . My lowest notes are not as low as a full cello but the Octave clarity and tone make the full cello sound a bit weak and muddy .
I hope some other Octave players can chip in and give their comparisons . |
