I think most of the good internet sources charge pretty much the same.

Bow Brand Harp Strings sell gut strings for guitars .Not specially made for guitars but they sell them in lengths that can be cut to size. It`s a good economical way to buy them. The quality is excellent. On guitars the tone is lovely . There is no reason to think violins will be any different . Getting the thickness worked out is all you have to do . They may give advice about that on their site . I will ask them some questions .

Still waiting to hear from Bow Brand about their new violin strings .
I found a set of unused Pirastro gut strings this week . The ends were left straight and I tied a figure of 8 knot to fit them .On the E string I made a loop to fit on a tiny lightweight adjuster . It`s a long time since I fitted gut strings and after watching the geared pegs comparisons ,they would be a perfect match .
There is even a brass plated pair of string tuners to fit a 4/4 scroll . They work on mandolins ,let`s face it .
But the tone of pure gut has a special crystalline sound that metal strings cannot match .
The bother of changing and tuning gut strings would be much easier with the gears to simplify tuning without the wrestling with wooden pegs .
