Closeup films of violin /piano duets bring in the horror of face pulling as a part of the musical expression . A modern interpretation of expression may be moving towards rejecting players who does not join in the act by making the right faces to match the notes . But even film makers do not expect so much over acting . Male violin players do not indulge in so much of this as pianists . Pianists do not need to hold their instrument ,so anything above the waist is free to move around .Longer hair can join in the show off game on top of flashy
"sensitive (oh , look at me )"arm movements .
Lady virtuosi pinpoint certain short groups of notes with bright eyed excesses as if demonstrating to a class of primary school children. Looking around at the orchestra sometimes as they play feels as if they are the primary school children being belittled and offended ."This is how you Should do it children ".
For lady players it would be better to study Liv Ullmann who changed her expression so cleverly you could never pin down how it worked so perfectly . Not so much bright eyes and obvious over acting would be preferable .
I`m thinking of a player from Moldova called Patricia to be specific and her piano playing partner . Both great players but overall just a bit too scary . |
