Hello, new to the forum. We have a local auction house here that sometimes acquires violins. They usually sell for fairly cheap, <100 dollars but the last one I looked at had no markings at all on the instrument or the case. (that I could see) Is there a particular place that the maker will mark these?
Thanks in advance.

You might see a label if you look inside the left 'f' hole. It will often sound or look important, like Antonius Stradivarius anno 1713 or Amati or something, often made in Germany or China. Those are made in a factory type shop and not by one person.
Wood quality and craftsmanship is a better indicator of it's value but it takes some experience to recognize that. |
