A flat back, carved top bass arrived that looks like it has been thru many wars... but apparently still sounds good.
Here are the pics showing the split in the back, lower bass bout. The treble bout also has a crack, but the brace is not split.
I am proposing to lift off the outer sections of the back , clean the joints and reglue... sounds easy enough:)
Questions.. I don't have a lot of bass experience so would appreciate any suggestions and advice, considering this is to be a "frugal" repair
1- When reglueing the back sections, what is the best way to clamp the last section of the back to the brace? (I am not taking the top off)
2- After glueing, Is it appropriate or necessary to install inside cleats on the crack ? If so, I'll need to prep the glueing surfaces before the back section is glued
3- The brace is also split, but that I can get at that while the back sections are off
Thanks for your kind assistance!... Cheers, Mat
