I was looking for some 38mm bridges... Milo Stamm seem to be well regarded...
What is the essential difference between the Milo Stamm A series and B series? From pictures they look to be the same.
Am I correct to assume the Standard, Premium and Royal in each series represents better material quality?
Thanks, Mat |

It looks like the B has more dynamic kidneys, and the bottom arch is more cut out. I suspect starting with A gives you more to work with, but if you like where B is headed, that blank gets you started more. Neither looks like something I couldn't work with. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog

This is the site I was looking at the bridges...
http://www.milostamm.com/e_geigen.htm?PHPSESSID=681a40982ed9dc78c1bb3063559252e4
and yes I can see the slight difference in the shape of the bottom arch and kidneys... I had no idea the shape of a bridge in a blank form had much to do with the price, I thought it may have to do with treatment or choice of wood etc.
Thanks Michael... Mat |

I don't see a price difference. The illustrations at the top are different types of cut. When you click on an illustration, it changes the illustration to the left of the prices to the type you clicked, indicating the cut you're ordering, but the prices don't change. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog

Thanks Tony... good links. The differences in style seem to be quite subtle until you study them for a while. I see the toes of the feet on the A & K are upturned. The inner ankle of the A is angled downward ... seems to me that will be more suited to a highly arched instrument.
I never really paid much attention to bridge blanks on the assumption that the Aubert style is pretty standard and everyone carves them individually anyway to suit the luthier and the instrument. Guess I'll have to study bridges a little more closely.
Cheers, Mat |
